Shelter for hand-cycle trail
A tent shelter will be constructed at Pocahontas State Park as part of the new hand-cycle trail project, using a $5,000 grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Mid-Atlantic chapter.
The semipermanent shelter will be a place for riders to get ready to use the trail and a gathering space for friends and family. Picnic tables for the shelter were built by Hayes Madden with materials and time donated by Home Depot Richmond District and Robert Cash, manager of the Short Pump store.
“To be able to use these funds to help support the hand-cycle trails at Pocahontas State Park is a proud moment,” said Robert Satterwhite, president of the veterans group.
For the Reeve Foundation, the grants are one of the ways that “we strive to serve the disability community with a road map of resources and programs to enhance their quality of life,” said Maggie Goldberg, vice president of policy and programs. “The recognized grantees are instrumental to our work.”
